Driving south on Shields Street is a natural area known as the Kathy Fromme Prairie Natural Area. Our natural areas are critical to the existence of wild animals and native plants. These natural areas provide habitat for ferruginous hawks, burrowing owls, prairie dogs and bald eagles. Fair weather walks you will be treated with the songs of the meadowlark. However, the heavy snowfall has brought quiet to this normally busy natural area. The stark white against the leaning prairie grass in this image has the feeling of solitude and cold.
