One of the highlights of our visit to Vienna was a behind the scenes visit at The Spanish Riding School.
The Spanish Riding School is an Austrian institution based in Vienna, dedicated to the preservation of classical dressage and the training of Lipizzaner horses.
This is the area where they put on the shows.
Unfortunately we were not in Vienna long enough to attend one of those.
There were only ten people on our tour and our guide was a young man from Kazakhstan.
He was the most personal fellow and really made the tour fun and interesting.
We got to go to the interior stables but were instructed not to take photos.
Apparently too many tourists were foolish enough to stick selfie sticks inside the stables and were frightening the horses.
We were allowed to take photos of the horses in their outside stables.
When the tour was over we were taken to a line of horse and carriages and got a tour of the city in a horse drawn carriage.
We didn’t know that was part of our excursion.
Charlie and I were lucky enough to get a carriage all by ourselves!
