Owls are a highly sought after subject by us and one that we seem to have problems spotting. This beauty flew into a setting where we were photographing wood ducks and we quickly changed our focus to the owl. We figured this was a one in a million occurrence and we made sure to take advantage of it....the shots numbered so high it was a challenge to sort through them! Barred Owl facts: This widespread woodland owl usually dozes by day on a well-hidden perch, but it seldom relies on its good camouflage to avoid harm. Instead, it flies away at the least disturbance, rarely tolerating close approach. However where traffic is fairly regular, such as along some back roads, the barred owl may sit tight and provide good views at close range. ~ National Geographic
