The Cowichan Exhibition has a long history: Sixty years ago, G.H. Hadwen, who had served as secretary-treasurer of the Cowichan Agricultural Society in 1897, turned up an old notebook. It was the handwritten catalogue for the 1878 Fall Fair and "contained...a marginal index of exhibits, such as cattle, horses, sheep, pigs, grains, roots, vegetables, fruits, butter, poultry, ladies' work, floral, dairy". ~ Cowichan Valley Citizen
