Out on a Limb

Firehole River, Yellowstone National Park

Turning around when you're out on a limb, nearly 100' above the river, can end up being a bit of a balancing act. This young osprey wasn't having a good morning. It had already tried to catch a fish three times and it was wet, tired and hungry....now it had to twist around on a tiny limb just to be able to see the river and it wasn't easy. The bird finally got positioned for its' next attempt at breakfast and its' luck didn't improve. We watched it make five dives, with no success, and finally it flew off down the river...hungry and probably frustrated.
