Old Wooden Bridge

Southern Vancouver Island

This is typical of the old wooden constructed bridges that you can still find on the backroads of southern Vancouver Island. Usually built from timbers supplied by a nearby mill, they were originally used by logging trucks for hauling logs in to the mill from the bush. Gradually the roads and bridges became the main links between small settlements and towns.

We have several of these out in the country also, but they are slowly being replaced by steel and concrete. These have much more charm.
