1976 - Jill Henderson Griffis onboard the Goodyear GZ-19 Blimp Mayflower VII N1A taking off from Watson Island

Goodyear Blimp Mayflower N1A, Miami, FL

Jill was my sister-in-law from 1969 to 1981 and from Vestal, NY. Goodyear GZ-19A Blimp Mayflower VII N1A flew flew more flights than any blimp in history with a total of 13,145 flights. It was scrapped later in 1976 and replaced with a new larger GZ-20 blimp that had to operate from Opa-locka Airport for a year or two because the City of Miami refused to allow Goodyear to operate from Virginia Key. Goodyear obtained a long-term lease at Pompano Air Park and built a state of the art hangar on that property where they still operate from.
