1920's - school photo at Santa Clara School in Miami
Miami, Florida
Thank you to Linda High Thompson for contributing this great old image. Linda's mom Lutrelle Conger is 7th from the left in the 2nd row with the circle around her head. Linda's mom went to this school in the 1920's and it went up to 8th grade.
Those are some pretty snazzy adjustable Bahamas shutters gracing the windows of the school, especially back in the 1920's.
The current Santa Clara Elementary is located at 1051 NW 29th Terrace, Miami, FL 33127
Is there anyway to enlarge this photo? My mother was friends with Lutrelle Conger and I think that is her sitting next to Lutrelle. Her name was Marion (Mary Ann) Mullady. Thanks this is a wonderful site and I will soon contribute some of my photos from the 20's on. Carolyn Layton Hufty
Thank you, Nicole, for your comments here and for setting the record straight under the other photo.

I remember those windows well. You would have to use a pole with a hook to pull down the windows in order to close them. I was the guest to comment on the other Santa Clara picture. I also reponded to Ernie.
Destroying old significant buildings is so typical of Miami and Dade County where appreciation for history of the area is nil. They rarely put up historical markers to identify historical sites. I am still marveling at those adjustable snazzy Bahama shutters on this school so long ago.

What a shame this school was knocked down and a new building was built. The old school was so beautiful to me.
