Tender perennial to 20" tall with oblanceolate or
elliptic leaves in an opposite, pinnately compound
arrangement. The 1/2" lavender (occasionally white)
5 lobed blooms can be found in rich moist woodlands
showing there color from April-May. Notice that the
compound arrangement of leaves look like a ladder.
It is also called Greek Valerian since it shares the
Jacob's Ladder common name w/ Polemonium van-bruntiae.
In the latter the stems are stronger and the stamen
protrude beyond the petals (found in the Appalachians).
