Mexico often has such dichotomy. Often viewed as an irritant and a hindrance to a tourist's enjoyment, this intrusion of poverty and class struggle should instead be appreciated as the unique atmosphere of the country; not to mention the inevitable result in a free democracy of the growing wealthy class - for one to gain, another must lose.

great capture....a strong message in a simple scene.

In the city of Valladolid, the central park had many merchants selling their wares. It looked as if she didn't have enough to fill a standard stall, so took a place next to the restaurant across the street from the park..

David, am I correct in assuming the old woman is peddling clothing on the steps? If so, then what a powerful statement you've made of poverty sandwiched between the trappings of materialism and affluence - palm court atmosphere, yet - not least the "food in excess" name taken by the restaurant. Very well spotted. - Mike
