Flower longhorn beetle (Stenocorus schaumii)

Found this large (over an inch in length), sturdy longhorn beetle in the Arboretum in Ottawa. Larvae feed on a variety of hardwoods, and the adults nectar on flowers. Flower longhorns to the subfamily, Lepturinae, in which most of our smaller, colourful longhorned beetles occur.

I agree, he is kind of cute! I love the longhorns and, in fact, am watching an Ivory-marked Borer attracted to the light by my window. You have probably seen them. Another very handsome longhorn. V
