Fruit fly (Eutreta noveboracensis)

Not the kind of fruit flies that can appear in your kitchen when overripe fruit sits for too long! These are entirely different. They belong to the family Tephritidae, which has some of the most colourful and attractively patterned small flies. Look at that striped eye for example!
