Winter cranefly (Trichocera)

Nortel woods. These very small "craneflies" are in a different family from other craneflies, that of "Winter Craneflies". These can often be found early on in the winter and later in the season, as today, and will often land and walk on snow.

Wow! Amazing to see a cranefly in winter. I don't see how they can survive in the cold! Fantastic exposure and detail!

What a great macro of this brave cranefly. Amazing that they can manage these take-offs and landings so well. V
