Turøyvarden - Goffen

Turøy, Norway

I don't know the english name for a Varde. Its the things the vikings built on mountaintops where they lit a fire to warn about an approaching enemy.

This one is a lot younger though, 1896, built from stone and used to be covered in tar. It's about 5m high and is used as a navigating landmark for fishingvessels. It is probably built on a traditional place for a real Varde.

Nice light Goffen. The closest I can thing of is beacons, but they weren't usually permanent structures like this.

Ignore my question below, I didn't read your commentary close enough.

Very unusual Goffen, but very well captured. Is it very high? It would be fun to light a fire on it and try to photograph it in twilight.
