We've discovered that bison calves may be appealing because of their size and age, but they aren't the cleanest of animals. They seem to love mud, water, sand or any combination of the three. We generally see them caked with mud spots as in this image. This calf went a step further and seemed to think that it not only felt really good, it tasted good too! Bison facts: The female bison gives birth to calves after nine months of pregnancy. When the calf starts developing its horns and hump, it is the saddest time for the mother as it signals the time for them to part ways. It is always astounding to see that the bison is a very affectionate animal. A bond of deep affection always exists between the mother and its calf, even after they have parted ways. ~ Buzzle.com
