The North American bison is the largest land animal in North America. A bull can stand 2 m (6.5 ft) high and weigh more than a tonne. When you're driving by one in a Toyota Yaris you feel every bit of their height and weight. This fellow was a reasonable distance away so we stopped to get this shot. Believe me, I have a lot of appreciation for the reach of a longer lenses! Interesting fact: many accidents between bison and tourists occur at night in Yellowstone. A bison's eyes are black and don't reflect the car's headlights, so drivers are unable to see them.
