My grandmother owned and operated Sloppy Joe's. I worked there as a kid. It closed in the 70's.

Another big vote for Sloppy Joe's. Most of my downrown trips in the 50's included a stop there for their wonderful coconut milkshake.

Louis, I have great memories of Sloppy Joe's. When I was growing up in the sixties, in the summer months I worked with my Dad in his grocery store, Quality Food Market, on NW 7th Av. After we closed at 7:00, he would take me downtown for hot dogs and fresh made pina colada's at Sloppy Joe's, and then we'd go see a movie at the Paramount or Town or Olympia. Some of the best memories I have of my Dad were those summer nights downtown.

My friend Madeline's mom was the day time ticket clerk at the Paramount in the 50's and probably 60's after I left Florida. We used to get free tickets for the Olympia and a sister theater in Coral Gables. We never missed a good movie.

There it is!!!! Sloppy Joe's Juice Bar and Hot Dogs steamed in BEER!!!! What a place that was! I LOVED going there. The coconut milk juice, and the hot dogs were nothing short of amazing! Not sure if many remember this place, but back in the 60's they had a big sign inside:

"America will be 200 Yrs old in July 1976"

You can see the Sloppy Joe's sign right before you reach the doors to the Town Theatre below. Sloppy Joe's was the establishment next to the Town on the east side. I can't remember when this place closed, but it was there in the mid to latter 60's, of course I was quite young then, but I remember this place with fond memories.
