Thank you to Alvin Lederer for contributing this great old image.
From the brochure: "The City of Miami is deeply grateful to Mr. Kiyoshi Ichimura of Tokyo, Japan, who after visiting Miami in 1955 notified city officials of his wish to help create an authentic Japanese Garden here as an expression of friendship toward the American people and as a personal tribute to the beauty of Miami."
The garden still exists. However, when it was by itself, it stood out, when we would drive along the causeway, you would see it more prominently. In my last visit, I did not see the Budda they had in the garden.

You are both right. The original Japanese Garden on Watson Island (which I rented for my wedding in 1998) was destroyed by Parrot Jungle (now Jungle Island). The City of Miami, once Parrot Jungle was operation, built a new Japanese Garden farther to the south east of the original location). So, the garden is there, but it is not the one in the brochure.

No, this garden still exists! I was just at Jungle Island 2 days ago and remember seeing the sign for the Japanese Gardens just to the right of the parking garage for Jungle Island.

The City of Miami should be ashamed that they let this beautilful garden go by the
wayside. Now the overpriced Jungle Island resides there.
