I'm a Miami native. As a child I took the train to visit relatives every summer from elementary school through high school (graduated 1963). I loved this train! I hated to witness passenger service end, the cute train station demolished, and eventually tracks removed. I think it was a huge mistake to eliminate train service directly into downtown Miami.

Keith, your dad was a great guy, and a great next door neighbor of mine for almost four years (1970-1974) in Miramar. I had many enjoyable chats with him over the years and I missed having him for a neighbor when we moved to Hialeah. I'm very sorry to hear that he has passed on. My condolences to your mom, you and your sister.

My Father Earl Quattlebum work for Seaboard RR for over 40yrs. He worked in Hialeah he was a mechanic . He passed away march 07

Ironically, it was a strike that same year (1963) that put an end to passenger service on FEC trains. Rather than give in to the demands of the strikers, all train business was switched to commercial hauling of freight rather than passenger service runs.
