I gave the wrong site for some old Pier 5 charter boat pics....it's fishingmiami.net.

My grandfather, Capt. Ray Hitchcock , ran the charter boat named Flying-Hawk out of Pier 5. Found a picture of him with his guests and their catch on miamicharterboat.com. Lots of great old pictures on that site!

No Betsy, it is long gone, probably in the '80's when it disappeared. Museum Park is there on the bay with the deep water slip and Bayfront Park is still there, with Miamarina and Bayside in between the two parks.

Is pier 5 still in existence? I need to dump my dad's ashes there. He sailed and first mated with art crimmins of the yacht traveler. Dad wrote and made a tv series starting crimmins in 1953.

I used to spend every Saturday and many after school afternoons there when I was 8 years old. I lived at 11 N.E. 8th Street in the Commodore Hotel owned by my grandparents at the time. Truly, the place holds some of my very dearest memories.

I guess having memories of the pier would be special. I never visited. BUT, I just got my hands on a 16"x20" black and white photo of the entrance. This pic seems more updated than the one I have..for instance...the shelter-like roof on the left...on my pic, it is canvas. Also the Dreamboat sign, etc. are not there. And the marlin looks different (comparing the tail) and there are only 3 wires coming off that electric pole. I am thinking my pic is way older. Anyone seriously interested in purchasing, email me with an offer. I may just hang it in hubby's office.

I posted part of this on another photo, but feel it belongs here too. In 1949 I started my time in Miami working on the boats at pier 5 as a fishing guide. Then started sailing to the Bahamas on sailing yachts. After i got out of the service in 1953 i returned and got a captains license and ran one of the yachts out of Pier 5. That brought back many memories. Two Buddies were Chuck and Ollie. On St. Patty's, after finishing a bottle of Old Bushmill, the three of us went into the restaurant at the end of the pier and and ate 22 lobster tails each, in a contest where, the one who quits first pays. $1.79 all you can eat. We tied. Thank you for the photo. While selling our catch at the pier, we looked for future fishing customers. I have photos and stories on my site about those days. Google (parsec miami 40s) should be first.

I worked at Pier 5 as a mate on the charter boat Lucky Lu during my summer vacations in 1955 and 1956. The captain's name was Capt. Marvel. No Joke! A couple of years after I left working there he had a heart attack at sea and fell overboard. What a great time I had working for him and the guests at the pier. We caught so many big fish and sold what our guests did not want. I think the cost was about 25 cents a pound for grouper. Great memories.

Just inside of the entrance was a display case that had stuffed fish of all kind in it, how cool it was to see them. One of the first charter boats on the left was "SEA BOOTS". Location was a great thing for these Captains. They would "Hawk" potenial customers as they walked by. There was a sightseeing boat for everything even glass bottomed ones.

I grew up in Miami in the 50's and 60's, we would go to Pier 5 to see all the fish they brought in. My dad would pick something and we would take it home to have mom cook it, nothing tasted better. My sister and i would take the bus downtown on Saturday's and spend the whole day at Bayfront Park and then meet my mom who worked in the tea room at Richard's Dept Store downtown. I have great memories of grwoing up in Miami.

This was an awesome place! We used to go over to Pier 5 and spend half the day there buying fish and going to the "Garden". Just the other day I was looking through our old pics and I came across the Pier 5 and Garden pics. What a great time those were!

I remember the old pier 5 foundly. I was born in 1953 and we use to go their and watch the fishing boats come and go. You could by fresh fish then, shrimp, just about any seafood you wanted. Bayside has nothing on this place, it was a magical time, the old Miami so beautiful. Thanks for the memories, Dave Helmick Jr.

It was nice back then. I remember the beautiful garden with a pond and of course you could always buy peanuts and feed the hundreds of pigeons. What a shame that our city is now planning on building on the only open space left in downtown Miami.

If you remember Pier 5, you surely remember the beautiful ( and SAFE-at that time!) Rock Garden in Old Bayfront Park. We were so lucky to have had our childhoods in such a "Magic City", and it WAS then!

I miss Pier 5. My dad took me there often to watch the fish being unloaded and cleaned from the various charter boats, around 1962 or so. We often went out on some of the head boats near the end of the pier, but I don't recall their names. It was inexpensive entertainment and a good father son bonding opp. It's all gone now, I do miss it. And the times chasing the pidgeons at Bay Front park were great too.
