I learned to swim in the pool of one of these apartments closest to Brickell Avenue in the early 1950's when I was 4 or 5 years old. My father didn't want me to drown in the bay, pools, canals, etc. so he made sure I learned to swim at an early age. A swimming coach for kids had access to the apartment house pool and he made extra money on weekends teaching little kids to swim. Besides remembering the swimming lessons I remember being fascinated by the view of the river from the pool deck. The area is now occupied by giant condos and no longer has the tropical look depicted in this photo.
