lost-and-found

My favorite picture from Colorado, and probably of all time, seemingly lost in the transtition from windows to my new mac. (that's right, macintosh) After the 5th time through all my photocards, I finally found it hiding on my backup passport drive.
As seinfield would say, "I know how to back up, I just don't know how to get the BACK UP, back up!"

The reason this is my favorite photo is more about the story than the capture. I carry my camera everywhere, as you know. My family doesn't even see it anymore. We were on the top of a volcano in Northern New Mexico. Cristi and the boys were hiking down in the crater of the Volcano. Olivia is deathly afraid of lightning and sat in the car with her hands over her ears. I missed the hike to stay with her, but couldn't miss the chance to capture this from the top of the mountain. It was magnificent to watch this cloud and rain moving toward us and see the sudden strikes of lightning. I just started clicking similtaneous shots hoping to get just one strike.People were around me taking a few point/shoot shots and there I was on a big ole tripod. I clicked at least 200 shots and the ole 5D shutter was letting people know. I got this strike halfway to the ground, the next frame had the lightning completing its journey. http://www.pbase.com/clangley50/image/85032337

See tomorrow's PAD for the rest of the story.

Excellent shot. Even without the ligtning the downpour would look impressive.
