Thanks gentlemen! Sorry about the wrong link. Here's about 6-8 shots with that lens from the last 5 days:http://www.pkphoto.net/Galleries/Recent-images/5605678_gn5RBW#!i=3136479260&k=TLVkLqt

@Trav: Was in a big hurry to shoot before I had to get somewhere. At first was going natural light, so set it at 3200. Forgot to change it when I added the ring light.

Ditto! Really excellent image - the idea and execution - the both are excellent.

As commented under Canon Lens Talk:

....this is just excellent.

Shot with a tri-pod I suppose, (1/5th sec), but if so, then why the high iso 3200...but I grant you that it is amazingly clean...

Beautiful but difficult subject rendered with an artist's eye by you.

(please also note that the 2nd link gives a 404)

Best Wishes, Traveller

Thanks everyone. Have this lens on loan from Canon, and it is a LOT of fun (there are a couple of other photos posted in these forums herehttp://www.dpreview.com/forums/post/53344243 and here http://www.dpreview.com/galleries/8818338361/photos/2873411/pk13932)

When I showed my wife this, I expected a "that's nice honey..." with a roll of the eyes, but instead she laughed so hard she couldn't talk. Then she insisted I send it to the kids.

And, yes Trav, the close focus ability is amazing and sharp as a hair, literally, as you can probably see, to my wife's chagrin ("Honey, you really have to keep those hairs trimmed off your nose").

Paul, that is a cheap led ring light (popular off-brand I can't remember right now). It wouldn't fit over the lens, and I only had a few minutes before I had to run out. I knew that I needed some light balancing the sun on my right, so I just held it there. The first few frames it was totally in the image, because this lens captures more than 180 degrees at 8mm. It's just uncanny.

I have the lens until Monday, so I'll post any more cool shots I get.

Is that a led ring flash? PA

I laughed, I gasped, what a marvelous image...that puppy of a lens can do some close focusing can't it? Great work by you. Traveller

Now this is what I was hoping to see! Great job Peter.
