3rd Place - Emerging from a Tear in the Space-Time Continuum

AZ

Many strange things have been seen in the sky over Arizona. This was certainly one of them; this Blue Angels plane hasn't been seen for years.

Hi Traveller,

My workflow is rather straightforward, but has a few steps. The composite work is all done in PS Elements 10.
I started with a base raw photo of the sunset, converted & cleaned it up in Capture One, exported into a jpeg which was opened in PSE.
I then took the photo of the jet, did the same, and exported to PSE.
Then, I use Topaz ReMask to extract the part of the jet I want from the base photo. This is a plug in to both PSE and Lightroom, as well as PS. I like this a lot - easy to use and fairly quick. Once I have the jet as a stand alone, I cc it and paste it in as a new layer on top of the sunset.

For this shot, I created another layer of the sunset on top of the jet, and then with a mask, lightly let some of the upper layer show through the tail area of the jet. I then compressed the layers and resized.

The key answer to your question is Topaz ReMaskhttp://www.topazlabs.com/remask/ . Every so often they have sales - I think it is a great buy even at the regular price.

And here I thought you were just at the right place at the perfectly right time! I must say this is a nice composite image, very clean. How do you do this exactly? Do you magic wand the plane, feather 5(?) pixels, then cut and paste?

If you have a moment, what is the work flow?

Thanks,

Traveller
