A great blue heron (same species as we have in the Northwest) hunting in the Sweetwater Strand area of Big Cypress Preserve, on the northern edge of Everglades Nat'l Park. This was a spectacular area, the type of "swamp" you've always imagined the Everglades to be--but which it mostly is not. (Most of it is open sawgrass prairie.) Lots of dark drama here, with exotic birds, plants, and--alligators. I could have stayed here all day, watching and photographing, if I had time.
