A Little Help 4

July 18

Vanderbilt Children's Hospital

A dear friend provides compfort for Will as he goes through the continuous dialysis process. This process fills his stomach through a tube and then drains it pulling out more toxins each time. This happens about once each hour for twenty four hours and then the cycle begins again. Each time it fills his stomach and drains it out it causes great discomfort. Here he is squirming and moaning from the pain while being held and comforted.

This is by far the hardest thing I've ever attempted to document visually. It is impossible to emotionally remove myself. I just want to capture honestly what my nephew is going through.

This is indeed a very touching image and along with the muted tones in the treatment really gives a true sense of what little Will has been going through. I can only imagine how difficult it is to document all this visually, esp being so close to the situation, but you've done a remarkable job thus far. Just read the update today and it was very good to hear that they isolated a complication and have taken steps to correct it. My thoughts continue to be with all of you.

This terrible agonizing experience will cause Will to grow into a strong and compassionate man.
And his uncle will be there to capture his many victories, as well.
