razor sharp, picture quality is overly performed to canon 24-70 and nikkor 28-70 for less money, light and plastical feel, cheaper. only problem it has not dust seal.

Light weight, good sharpness and colour, although not razor sharp at wide open. I used it in a wedding, feel free to check the photos:

Update:
I shot about 400 photos with this lens realized it's far TOO SOFT at 2.8 (for me). Email me for samples.
I will however keep it as it's still a nice carry around lens for general purpose.

Tamron doesn't have a good reputation at all here in Asia except for the 28-75 2.8.
So...after thinking a lot and comparing reviews, canon and sigma lenses I decided to try it out on a canon 30D. I am actually extremely surprised by the lens.

Cons: 'small' chromatic aberration on high contrasted zones at big aperture.
Focusing accuracy can very under low light but it's a common issue on 3rd parties lenses.

Pros: Despite focusing speed cannot be compared to canon USM but is definitely enough for standard work.
Colors and sharpness are *really good* and hard to compete with, especially in this price range. Over f4, you get as good results as Canon L 24-70 in terms of sharpness and image quality (on non full frame DSLR. APSC size ONLY).
DOF is excellent at f2.8 with zoom over 50mm. IMHO Perfect lens for portraiture.

Don't hesitate as much as I did. It's definitely a good lens. Now let's see how durable...

I find that the lack of a hyperfocal distance scale to be the only letdown with this lens. Otherwise pound for pound it is the greatest standard fast zoom lens available for full frame 35mm capture. Maybe if Canon released a F/2.8 standard zoom with IS it would take Tamrons crown.

I like this lens and use for landscape.. mostly

On Nikon D80, set center autofocus area as "wide", this lens will focuses accurately.

This is my walkaround workhorse lens... A GREAT lens!

When the lens focuses correctly, the image quality beats many big named primes. But its focusing accuracy varies. My lens tends to focus more accurately if focusing direction is from near to far object. When from the oposite direction, the focusing tends to be slightly off. Did you notice that?
Guest 24-Dec-2006 05:02
I am satisfied with the image quality. But my lens focus alignment was off after 1 year of use. It was fixed by warranty repair. Here are 4 test shots compared this lens to Nikon 50mm f1.8http://www.angelfire.com/un/ctct/lens.html

Unbelievable. This lens easily beat the Canon and Nikon but is only half the price. The image is sharp, colour is well balanced and natural. I am glad I didn't hesitate to pick up one as soon as I saw it on eBay.

i love this lens, my walkaround lens. And so cheap for a superb lens! the colors 'r very good like the much expensiver canon or nikon 28-70 f2.8, and sometimes the sharpness 'r better then the nikon or canon 28-70 lenses! Tamron rocks!

My favorite all around lens. If I can only have one lens, I want this one. Good contrast, color, bokeh & sharpness. Great minimum focus distance and the weight isn't too bad either. See my gallery of shots with the Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 XR Di here:http://www.pbase.com/alinla/tam_2875_xr_di

This is my walk-around lens, on my camera 80% of the time! For the price it's really worth it! Got good bokeh and it'll suprise you! You won't regret it!

Just had this lens for a couple of days and i LOVE it.
It's fast and pretty sharp, good walk abot lense, even though it lacks the wide end of the scale.
Guest 17-May-2005 10:36
The more I use it the better it gets. What can I say about the price!
Guest 03-Apr-2005 01:57
I just got this lens and I'm pretty impressed, especially since this is my first non-Canon lens. I think, for the money it's an excellent all-around lens. It's going to be one I keep on my camera a lot.

This lens is very sharp and versatile. Cant see my self getting rid of this lens in a long while and I've had it for over a year now.
Guest 17-Jan-2005 20:47
This is a great lens. My walkaround.

Guest 17-Nov-2004 04:29
I like this lens a lot. You won't be regret your choice.
Guest 05-Nov-2004 08:33
An outstanding and versatile lens, possibly the best value walkaround lens for the money. Sharp, solid and reliable, it is a great companion to my EOS-300D. It is a bit lacking on the wide end with a 1.6 crop factor, but otherwise it really is the ideal everyday lens.
Guest 29-Oct-2004 17:21
One of the best "Cheap" lenses out there, image quality wise almost as good as my 24-70 f/2.8L.
Snapping Turtle14-Oct-2004 02:41
Excellent constant aperture lens. While its range is too short to serve as an walk around lens, it is excellent for portrait and indoor shooting. The focusing distance is good enough to get some flower shots. It is well worth the money.
