a little research and I found their reason for buying the falls and making it off limits, its business as they say:
"In the Spring of 1998, the land around Drift Falls was acquired by the owner of the quarry across the street, who has posted "No Trespassing" signs in the area, in an attempt to ease traffic congesion on N.C. 281 at the quarry's entrance, for the benefit of the gravel trucks that use the area. It is uncertain how this conflict will be resolved."

have you seen the sign, what an eyesore, if you dont know the history, this falls used to be the one everyone went to to slide on in the summer due to its close proximity to Hwy 64, then the mining company bought it (I dont know why, their operation in across the road), posted signs, and had a full time security guard on duty to press charges should anyone visit the falls or cross their property. They also got the state to post signs along the raod saying its illegal under state law to stop or park on the side of the road. I dont know why they wont share and are keeping this falls from the public.
