During my first phase of bird photography in the early 1990s I had never seen a great egret in our region. So I was quite surprised to see two of them shortly after I started again in 2005. It was on a dull, grey day, after sunset, when I found them far away on the far shore of the Rhine near Eglisau. Not enough light for a good picture, and necessarily cropped, but I show it here for the sentimental value it has to me.
