Curly Kale
by jrdu

My mom used to like to put some curly kale in the soups she made for us. I was suppressing giggles when I shot this because they were using this vegetable as a decorative plant in huge flower pots along Money Street in Tianjin. I love the difference in cultures.

We do this too. When we visited Mohonk in New York State a few years ago in the fall, they had these all over the place in decorative garden areas.

Lovely image, John. Excellent job capturing the texture of this beautiful plant. Colors are wonderful.

Very pretty plant - I think the Chinese have the right idea, it probably looks better than it tastes! We had kale greens almost everyday in the school cafeteria - only one time I saw a girl take a taste of it.

Pretty shot, John.
Katherine, the Italians do it right. Sauté until tender with plenty of salt in olive oil & garlic (just like wild mushrooms but a lot longer).
