Tawny frogmouth

Wildlife park.

When feeling threatened, the Tawny Frogmouth stays perfectly still, with eyes almost shut and with bill pointed straight, relying on camouflage for protection

He's adorable. Fine, detailed capture. He looks somewhat like wood so maybe that does work for protection. V.

I thought he was just sleepy. Great shot of an equally great subject.
Has he also got a mouthfull of frogs? :0)

I can imagine that those camouflage techniques work very well against the bark of a tree!:>)

A very clever camouflage, he just looks like a piece of bark sitting there ... almost! v

His feather pattern is just like the bark of a tree. Isn't Nature wonderful?!

We have them around the house at night...I raised one once after it fell from a tree and the parent left without it....I have a soft spot for them

We saw a couple of those at the Tasmanian Devil Conservation Park in TAS recently. They're quite photogenic (as this example shows) and quite smart as well.
