under the spreading Oleander..

Luddenham

This small village church in Luddenham
caught my eye as I was riding past..lovely old sandstone.

Oleander trees were very popular, til they found out the
'sappy' leaves are deadly poisonous, especially to kids.

We used to have two of these trees each side of the front gate
of my childhood home..used to pick them and rip the leaves
to reveal the gluey sap..never did us no harm.

I remember as a teenager, riding home one night..
and turning into the driveway the bike's headlight shone on the
sight of a big web spread between the two trees,
with and large Golden Orbweaver suspended in the centre..yikes!! hehe..
No time to stop..I ducked just in time as the bike went through the gate ;-))

The thing is, many plants are poisonous but they only concentrated on the poor old, tough growing, drought tolerant Oleander.
A great shot Susan, not many church graveyards to find these days.
