Las Burras Canyon is a valley with an intermittent stream that rises on the edge of Cerro de las Burras,
and runs four miles south to its mouth on the Rio Grande at Domingo.
Its course crosses desert mountain terrain and canyon land and is marked by volcanic rocks and alluvial fans of outwash deposits.
The soil in the area is generally light reddish-brown to brown sand and clay loam, rough and stony.
The vegetation consists primarily of sparse grasses, cacti, and desert shrubs.
