Fruit fly (Strauzia longipennis)

This beautiful little fly is NOT the same as the tiny black fruit flies that cluster around ripening fruit in our homes. This species is in the family Tephritidae. This fly species is also known as sunflower maggot, as it is closely associated with sunflowers.
