Ragweed fruit flies (Euaresta bella)

These tiny, but very attractive green-eyed flies are associated exclusively with common ragweed (Ambrosia artemisiifolia), the native plant that is responsible for allergies for many people. Their larvae develop in the seeds of ragweed, thus helping control the plant to some limited extent.
