Main Town Hall, a Gothic-Renaissance building, was originally built in 1298 and functioned as an office of the Hanseatic League.
The construction of the present Town Hall was initiated in 1379, when the town was dominated by the Teutonic Knights. In the following centuries Gdansk returned under Polish jurisdiction, the town flourished and the Town Hall was enlarged. The style is Gothic, with elements from the renaissance, which have been added later.
