This Could Have Cost Me

I know some of you will look at this image and think what's up with this title?
It was very nice day at 22C and a light breeze. I had the front windows down on the
truck as I was driving home. The wind was nice and cool and I was enjoying it.
The task at hand on the way home was to pick up dog food.....
How do you say "this could have cost me"
Well I park the truck in the mall parking lot and head off into the store.
All goes fine and I get all the stuff that is in my head list and head back off to the truck
to head home....Next I drop the end gate and load up the dog food and unlock the
drivers door and hop in....all is fine you think untill I see I have rolled up the drivers
window but have left the passenger side window all the way down!!! My heart stops as I don't
even want to turn around and look in the back to see if my camera gear is still there...
out of the corner of my eye I see it's still sitting on the back seat....I take a quick inventory
of the stuff thats in my truck and by some luck of the god's it's all there...
I'm posting this image of the truck as I found it with a camera I did not loose.
The thing is I carry 2 cameras and a few pounds of glass etc...and the kit could been gone...
Next time I well be more careful...

99.9% of the people on this planet are honest. You could probably do that 100 times before you lost anything. Probably (-:}..

I'm A.D.D. and forget things like rolling my window up all the time and I live in Houston. Worst to come of it has been wet upholstery so far. Thank God for honest people or unobservant dishonest ones.

yikes.. i have that fear too.. minus one camera..
pkocinski03-Jul-2008 21:04
Senior moment Mike? :-)
Steve Sharp03-Jul-2008 17:50
Close call Mike; I should think you'd have been mortified to lose the D300 so soon, but you'll treasure it even more now.

A lucky break, Mike! Always someone around who might want your stuff but just doesn't want to pay for it! A heart stopper for sure. I was at my insurance agents office yesterday to update some policies and asked him about camera gear insurance. Turns out I can insure up to $10,000 worth of gear for only $34 a year with a $250 deductible! Not bad I think. Now, I need to get $10,000 in gear!!
:o)

Luck is on your side Mike and that mall can be a bad spot for even a smash and grab, never mind just a grab. I think you should buy a 6/49 ticket now - and buy more Nikon gear Brad C. ;)

Great shot. So happy you still had your kit to take it with.
Jim Larkin03-Jul-2008 04:16
Oh yeah....glad your stuff didn't get knicked. Trust me. I know the sinking feeling all to well.
Jim Larkin03-Jul-2008 04:16
The difference between Mike and me is that I GAVE MY FREAKIN KEYS TO MY THIEF. Dang it, thanks for bringing that up John. One day Mohammed......one day vengence will be mine.
Guest 03-Jul-2008 03:50
I see reflection of the thief holding his head - "Oh, boy... how could I miss this" :)) nice angle Mike... voted!
Walter Otto Koenig03-Jul-2008 02:56
You are a lucky man Mike. Great shot by the way.

Glad it worked out OK... Brad is jealous, he knows that most theives know there is little to no value in Canon gear so why steal it. So he probably missed the point. We Nikon owners know our gear is always in demand. Keep it out of sight!
Earl Misanchuk03-Jul-2008 02:33
Yikes. Yes, you were very lucky, Mike. But then again, this is Saskatchewan so folks don't go around stealing stuff from vehicles. Or do they? :-)
al59903-Jul-2008 01:45
I do the same (carry loads of gear), and have also left it lying around by mistake. I feel your pain!
Brad Claypole03-Jul-2008 01:44
Could have been worse, they could have replaced your equipment with Nikon stuff. Man, that would have sucked, er, oh wait... No, Sony stuff, oh wait same thing...

Why did you leave the two in the truck anyways - trying to get them to mate!

Hope your now in a laughing mood after such a close call
John Buffin03-Jul-2008 01:35
Holy cr@p! I thought this was a guessing game tonight. That's what I get for sniping for new photos after a few MGD's. ;)

Glad to hear you didn't have a Larkin moment. No offense, Jim.
Cindi Smith03-Jul-2008 01:35
I hear ya! I try to make sure to throw something over the gear but sometimes you forget. A reminder to all to keep everything locked up and hidden. btw....very cool shot!!!!!
Steve Mockford03-Jul-2008 01:33
A close call..a catastrophe avoided. Thanks for reminding us all of the potential cost of a moments inattention.
pkocinski03-Jul-2008 01:19
I'm guessing Mike left his camera gear in the truck with the window down :-)
John Buffin03-Jul-2008 01:17
It's a cool shot, but I can't figure out if you forgot to buy food or ALMOST forgot to buy food. OR...did you forget to roll up the windows and came out to a shower? Dang, I'm just not on my game tonight.
