How did you get to all these seemingly off-limit places to take those shots? Like you have to scale buildings and walls.
phwualoha 23-Jan-2014 07:52
I enjoyed your collections of pictures. Thanks for sharing. I like your composition. Very natural and exceptional!

Hi Terry, thank you so much for stopping by and leaving such kind words! They are great encouragement to me! Oh Yes, have been using Fuji alot - it's actually a little F10 that got me into this photography thing in 2005... The X-Pro1 isn't perfect, yet without doubt it's the most capable and verstatile Fuji cam I've used. Hi ISO performance is amazing; tonality and details so natural and exquisite... Beautiful! My reservations? I hope it could be less bulky but I can still squeeze it into my briefcase and carry it with me everyday everywhere.:-) I hope its focusing could be more responsive but it's not bad at all and the EVF is just lovely - in manual focus mode, pressing 'the centre of the command dial' the view in the EVF (or LCD) will magnify for easy focus check.

Hello Hugo, I love your photography. The patterns, reflections, juxtapositions, you catch the moment, the light, the atmosphere and your night technique is excellent. I enjoy photographing some similar subjects myself, but you're way ahead of me. Now even more determined to visit HK! Keep up the great work. Notice you use Fuji a lot, came across your work looking for X-Pro 1 samples. Your results with that camera are excellent - do you have any reservations about it? Terry, NYC, USA.

Thanks Hugo for sharing the X100 shots! I am waiting for a demo unit to come my way me soon, to be reviewed for a local photo magazine.

Hello Hugo, I have just walked by Taikoo Place and your photos are stunning to my eyes!

I specially like the one you took from 江西, which looks like a 彩色水墨畫 painting to me at first sight. What a beautiful scene!!

Hi Linn! Thanks so much for the warm words! Makes my day to read them.:-) It's sad to say that FTF isn't quite a fun place as it used to be... Anyway, I'll try to post more often. Merry Christmas to you too!

Hugo, you are the shit. I feel gritty and grimy and generally desperate when I look at your images. Then I realize that I am NOT there and I am NOT filthy and poor, or scrambling and sweaty (at least relatively...), and that I am looking at a freakin picture...on the web! That's your magic. You take a lonely, late night internet rambler and trick him into believing he is in Hong Kong. Thanks for flipping my lid. Now-after all that, I'm gonna tell you that I'm going to buy a f100fd instead of a Panny tz5, thanks in part to you. What a way to ruin the poetry huh? Wham.

Hi Hugo,

I'm considering trading in my Leica Clux2 for the FujiFilm F100. I've had 3 Fuji's in the past and I'm not sure why I went with the Leica. Don't get me wrong the Leica is a great little camera but I think I'm paying for the "red dot".

Your photos have taken me back a few years, my father worked for Cathy Pacific and I visited him there in HK - an amazing place.

I love your pictures, they are superb....especially like the ones with the black cat -I think I'm convinced that the F100 is the way forward for me.

Keep shooting, you have a real talent.

Thanks very much CM!!! Makes my day to read your message!

What a wonderful coincidence that we took up this photography thing in the same year (2005), and it has evolved from a hobby into such a massive passion... There's one more thing you might be interested to know - I was also graduated from the HK Polytechnic.:-)

PS. I've only started to participate more actively on Pbase since a few months ago, yet I find this a great place and it's so gratifying to be able to meet gifted photographers (especially from HK like you) who are shooting from the heart!

See you and take care,
Hugo

Hi Hugo,
I'm so glad to meet you, a talented HK photographer, on Pbase! Thanks so much for visiting my galleries and giving me encouraging messages.

I enjoy visiting your galleries. Your work is one of the best on Pbase.

Herbridge,

Oh thank you so much for these warm words of encouragement! Keep shooting? I can't stop... Photography is such a massive passion or even obsession of mine! I keep feeling that we are so lucky to have found (or been found by) 'photography', and we've got some means to "freeze" our ephemera life...

Best regards,
Hugo

Fantastic photos you took. Just made me sweat calling myself an amateur. I will come back browsing your albums. Keep posting and encouraging, especially, WE camera and lens shoppers rather than photographers.
hugo poon13-Mar-2008 05:59
Thanks so much Ron!!! Makes my day to read such wonderful words as yours. I have a pretty demanding day job; I really can't imagine how I could have gone through all the hectic days if I have not found myself this fantastic hobby!:-)

Cheers,
Hugo

I will not stop until I have viewed every shot in you large collection. Not bad going for someone who is "not a photographer, not even an amateur"! Yours is a memorable journey indeed. Many thanks for your fascination with the visual.
Cheers,
Ron

Thank you very much indeed for posting those two night shots taken with the Finepix S100FS in Causeway Bay (?). I wonder if this camera is on sale in Hong Kong already and if you enjoyed working with it.

Hi Ban,

You've made me a very happy man by letting me know my photos are inspiring... Thanks!:-)

All I've done is shooting for pleasure - enjoying myself in observing the existence of the everyday life, with a light touch, and hopefully with some wit... It's specially gratifying that my joy is shared and others are inspired to enjoy theirs.

Happy shooting!:-)

Hugo

PS. Congrats on getting the F30 and F31. Must be two of the best p&s digital cams Fuji has produced so far.
ban vu 09-Feb-2008 16:52
Dear Hugo,
I accidently discovered your photos from an cameras website review. I have to confess that they strike so profoundly. I am able to purchase F30, a year later F31, i passed the F30 to my son for his 17th birthday. I had other film cameras and other point and shoot digital camers, but none of them are able to satisfy my search for color and the sharpness as the F30 + F31 can give, thanks to you.
I love the way that you look at your surrounding, and capture the way they are, it is so naturally. My word is not nough to describe how i appreciate your photos, they inspire me a lot.
Best regard
Ban

Love your pics on Hong Kong, especially the "streets, Hong Kong".

Jonathan, thanks for visiting and leaving your warm words! It seems that we're both interested in capturing the vanishing part of the City...

'Photographers deal in things which are continually vanishing and when they have vanished there is no contrivance on earth which can make them come back again.' Henri Cartier Bresson

These words are not only an impact but also a drive for my shooting.

All the best,
Hugo

took up photography in April 2005 when I got the Fuji F10; quite to my surprise, what started off as a leisure time hobby has evolved very soon into an important part of my life... Taking photos is so enjoyable when it succeeds in capturing the moments as my eyes see something and my heart feels it too. In such mood, I seldom feel interested in planned, arranged or manipulated photographs...

Always learning, experimenting, seeking inspirations and having fun in sharing. And as always, your comments and advice would be highly appreciated.

Best regards,
Hugo
