Every spring and fall there is an art fair around the streets of Washington Square Park. To provide an idea of what is looks like, a random collection of photos are included in this gallery, beginning with the 2003 spring fair.
Photographers Alert! In recent years, I stopped photographing this event due to exhibitors objections to photos taken in this public space. On September 4, 2011, an exhibitor threatened to break my camera if I took photos near his gallery space. I reported the incident to the Washington Square Art Fair Association Information Booth, and the representative there told me I should just "move on". I asked the representative to report the matter to the Association Board members and to issue a public statement on their policy in this regard. Since 911, I've been threatened in public streets by private "security" guards not to take photos near their buildings. It's sad that NYC would allow this condition to prevail in public spaces.
I resumed taking photos of this event on May 23, 2015 to photograph personal friends' galleries.
