This is a tidal marsh of over six acres near the mouth of the Connecticut River where it flows into Long Island Sound. It is one of the most important ecosystems serving Long Island Sound. Coastal salt marshes rank among the systems with the highest productivity of any in the world. The mixture of fresh water, tidal salt water with decaying marsh, vegetation and animals creates a rich broth of nutrients that sustains a chain of life from microscopic organisms to animals such as birds, fish, crabs and snails. My wife and I have many memories from our walks in this area.
