Sunflowers seem to soak up the sun and their golden glow radiates it back to the world. Sunflower
facts: Archaeologists surmise that wild sunflowers were used by Native Americans on the North American
continent as far back as 8,000 years ago. The seeds of the sunflower were roasted and eaten as a snack,
or ground into a fine meal used to thicken soups and stews. Roasted hulls were brewed to make a drink
similar to coffee Dye was extracted from hulls and petals, while face paint was made from dried petals
mixed with pollen. Dried stalks were utilized for building material. The oil had a variety of uses, as
