On Vancouver Island the California Quail is found primarily along the east coast of the island from Victoria north to Comox (rarely farther north). They are extremely quick and agile birds and we've found them exceedingly difficult to photograph, usually just capturing their backsides as they disappear into the bush. After trying repeated times to get a close-up of these birds this quail just sauntered out of the bush and posed for me as I snapped repeated shots.
