Dun Skipper for Dinner - Euphyes vestris

Wildcat Ridge WMA, NJ

Ambush Bugs are unbelievably effective predators. This one must be less than a third the butterfly's weight, yet it managed to attack and kill it while maintaining its grip on the flower, all without the aid of venom.

Thanks! Ambush bugs really are just unbelievable. I didn't get a photo, but this year at this same park I found one dangling a very large bumblebee from a Goldenrod, holding on by its two back legs, in about a 20mph wind, and I passed it on my way back about an hour later and it was still holding fast.
