Snow & Dangerous Cold 2-18-25

“Kansas City set a new temperature record for Feb. 18, as another snowstorm pummeled the metro amid bitter cold temperatures. Tuesday, Kansas City set a record for the coldest high temperature on this date with a high of 4 degrees Fahrenheit. The previous record was 11 degrees, set in 1936. The Kansas City Metro also broke the record for the lowest temperature on this date. The previous record was two degrees, set in 2006.

Meteorologists are watching out for extreme cold through at least Thursday, when wind chill values as low as 35 below zero are possible in much of the metro.” Kansas City Star

“The rest of the week remains under our highest alert, with a First Warn Weather Day for Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. The snow is done, but the cold will only get worse. In fact, this looks to be tied with last year for the longest cold snap of this intensity of the past 25 years. A quick note on the snow, Kansas City officially received under 4 inches at the airport.

Each morning the rest of this week will bring record cold. Wednesday at -4 beats the record of -3. Thursday is the coldest low at -13, which absolutely crushes the current record of 2. Friday’s -5 beats the current record of 0. Each morning will have wind chills from -25 to -35.(degrees below zero Fahrenheit)” KCTV5
