Winner of the Honor Award of The American Institute of Architects, the Meinel Optical Sciences Building was one of 11 buildings worldwide selected by the group this year and the only Tucson building to receive an Honor Award from the group in its 59 years of awarding prizes.
Designed by James Richard, a UA architect graduate, it has 44,000 square feet.
Unlike many of the buildings on campus, this one was built withno bricks. It's covered in copper on 3 sides with a faceted glass wall on its front.
