examples of shooting "from the hip" which is really a misnomer
some of these were taken from the ankles or waist & some were taken resting the camera on a rail or other support
what is common to these is that all were taken without using the viewfinder, except to prefocus or preframe, which I did for some
the advantages of this kind of photography are the lower POV (which I find useful for shooting automobiles and children) as well as being less intrusive ...I try to keep eye contact with my subjects & use a spirit level to help with composition
bringing the viewfinder up to the eye often changes the photographer's relationship with the subject & shots taken in this fashion are usually "more candid"
