After spending the night in Walla Walla, WA, I drove on towards Lewiston, ID and the fishy environs of the Lochsa River beyond it. I had forgotten how spectacular the Palouse hills just northeast of Walla Walla are. An area a few miles up Hwy 12 was too inviting to pass up, and I made an impulsive right turn onto a dirt farm road. Eventually I came to a spot with a commanding view of the pastel-brushed countryside.
