Lucy Visits the Mesquite Arts Center
Just imagine Lucy's surprise when she was invited to visit the Mesquite Arts Center!
You know she likes to go out and about and it just so happens that there is a photo exhibit that we wanted to see.
Thank you Mike for the invitation!

"Under the Western Sky"
Lucy and I visited the Mesquite Arts Center to see Derrick Birdsall's beautiful photography exhibit "Under the Western Sky".
Never before had Lucy seen such dramatic skies and the photos left her speechless!
If you live in the area... be sure to get over to see the exhibit and if not, you can check out his photography at:

Uh oh!!
Looks like Lucy has gotten herself in trouble again.
When I wasn't looking, she grabbed the camera out of Mike's hands and was determined she wanted to take a photo too,
but... there was only one problem... she couldn't lift it to her eye!
Girl Talk
I think Lucy has found a new friend.
It seems that Christina took an immediate liking to Lucy and I do believe the feeling was mutual.
Lucy Visits the Butterfly Garden
Lucy was excited when I told her we were going to see the butterflies and that a couple of the "crazy women" would be joining us.
Changed her clothes in hopes that the butterflies would like the bright colors and off we went to the Texas Discovery Garden Butterfly House.
Now this was the first time that Lorraine and Debbie had ever been out with Lucy and my husband's parting words were...
"You'll be sorry!" as he does not share in my crazy sense of humor. Unfortunately his words rang true by the end of the day.
We arrived shortly after they opened and Lucy was amazed to see all the butterflies fluttering by but even though she sat very still,
none of them got too close yet they would almost bombard the crazies. Made no sense at all.
The light was contrasty which made shooting more difficult but I was able to get one shot where a Zebra Longwing flew closeby to get a better look at Lucy.
We did have a bit of a calamity that day unfortunately when Debbie didn't see a stone step and plummeted to the ground face first on the stone pathway.
Her camera went flying and she ended up with an abrasion on her forehead and nose and a hematoma on her hand.
At one point she stopped talking and had this glazed-over look in her eyes and someone called 911 and the paramedics arrived in a flash.
Shortly after this she started feeling a bit better and I took her to the emergency room for a CT scan of her head just to be on the safe side.
You don't want to mess around with head injuries!
Everyone at the Texas Discovery Garden was so helpful and concerned.
They brought a fan to cool her off, an ice bag for her head and when she felt well enough to sit up,
they brought a pillow to cushion her back and head as she rested against the stone wall,
and called 911 in her time of need.
The good news is, we plan on a full recovery!
Youth is but a memory...
OMG! Imagine my shock when I opened an e-mail to find this image of my special friend Lucy!
Even poor Lucy cannot escape the ravage of time. Is this really what the future holds for this beautiful young woman... my friend... my best friend?
Ahhhh... yes, time does take it's toll on us all if we are fortunate enough to live so long and our only salvation is surgery or to do our best to age gracefully.
As for me, I will stick with aging gracefully... or as gracefully as possible.
And here again, Lucy can teach us an important lesson.
Somehow, when we have a smile on our face, we do not look quite so dour... and aren't smile wrinkles better than frown wrinkles?
And we must always remember... beneath that facade is a whole life filled with wonderful stories to share, memories of friends and family and words of wisdom to be had.
It has taken years to develop such a face with character and no two faces are ever the same.
In spite of the emphasis on youth in today's world, it is the person inside that really matters, irrelevant of how it is packaged,
yet the aging process can be startling if it does not occur gradually.
I think we can all look back at a photo that was taken of us years ago when we thought it was a terrible photo
and now today look back at that same photo and would wish we still looked that young, that thin and that vibrant.
Yes the years take their toll but it also gives us a new perspective on life and what is really important!
Thanks to my good friend Tess for doing this "evil magic" to Lucy's photo with her iPhone app "Old Fart Booth" and thereby causing us to reflect on life itself.
BTW... I have threatened her to NEVER do this to one of my personal photos as the aging process needs no help!
Tea in the afternoon
Today Lucy and I treated ourselves to tea and muffins in the afternoon. I thought perhaps she wanted to chat, but she really didn't have much to say.
We did discuss our future plans for a day out together so keep your eyes open for Lucy's next adventure.
Lucy Invited to Hospital for Nurses' Week 2013!
Lucy had the great honor of being invited to the local hospital to celebrate Nurses' Week!
She was proud to wear my old cape from nursing school and I made her a paper nurses cap to wear.
What fun it was seeing old friends and co-workers and Lucy had her photo taken many times by those attending!
We laughed at the wheelchair races and the water-balloon toss caught in a bedpan.
Oh... the twisted minds of healthcare workers! No such thing as all work and no play!
Lucy thanks everyone for their hospitality and bravo to all of the nurses everywhere!
Nurses Rock!
Lucy Meets Santa
I was reminiscing about my special friend Lucy.
This photo was taken back in 2012 when we went to meet Santa at Bass Pro Shop.
We waited in line and when it was our turn, you should have seen the expression on Santa's face.
I'm sure he was wondering what this crazy woman was doing toting a mannequin around.
It was definitely a one-sided conversation but Santa played the game and got some chuckles out of it.
Such fond memories! I miss Lucy!
Tornado on the Ground!
It was the day after Christmas, 2015, when a tornado struck Rowlett.
We took cover in the bedroom closet with the dogs with our shoes on, expecting nothing to happen
and then we lost power, heard glass shattering, wood splintering and things going thud.
It probably lasted no more than 20 seconds and then there was dead silence.
I cautiously opened the bedroom closet to see that the roof was gone,
all the bedding was stripped off the bed and the contents of my computer room upstairs ended up in the master bathroom.
But we and the dogs survived!
A couple strangers walked in through the downed walls asking if anyone needed help and they led us out of the house.
As we went through the living room, I saw Lucy sitting in the rocking chair unscathed. I was so relieved!
The next day we returned to the house but Lucy was gone! She was not in the rocking chair!
And then I saw her laying out to the side of the house with a severe skull fracture and dismembered.
Was someone up to no-good and did this to her?
I cried! I loved Lucy! We had so many fun times together and she made so many friends along the way.
May she RIP...
And thank you Lucy for all the memories and good laughs we had together.
It should never have ended this way.
You will be missed, for sure!
