Skirt from Marfy #9419 in Resort Tweed with Silk Crepe underskirt. First half of a suit. Skirt finished 10-31-05. Jacket finished 11-03-05.

Jacket made from Marfy pattern #9419, using a Pendleton wool reversible jacquard in taupe and black with cattle brand symbols. The lining is a silk chiffon with flocked swirls. Finished 4-20-2005.

Oh! Liana, all your apparel is wonderful and very well prepared. The fabrics are very original. Congratulations. I really like Marfy patterns, and even I have a friend who lives in Ferrara (Italy) where it has its headquarters Marfy Patterns and once visited their offices. Truly wonderful. Hi Liana! This is fabulous. I was wondering how to get Marfy pattern. I tryed over the internet but i couldn't get it. There are some things i would like to make but i can't get any pattern. Please if you can recommend the way to get it. Thank you very much.

Hello Liana: i just finished looking at your garments. They are beautiful. I have seen the Marfy catalog in sewing magazines. I consider myself an advance intermediate sewer. i read an aticle in threads magazines probably 3-4 years ago. This article encouraged sewers to sew a garment without reading the pattern instructions. I tried it, and the rest is history. After looking at your garments, you are my sewing inspiration. I will give marfy patterns a try

Alania, I would say that yes, Marfy patterns are worth the no-instructions challenge. If you're and advanced, experienced seamstress, I'm sure you'd have no problems. As you say, you can use books you trust to give you help, and the drafting on these patterns is light-years above the "Big 4." I hope you give them a try!

Your garments are beautiful. I have been looking at the Marfy patterns shown on the Vogue pattern website, and am very intrigued by their style and flair. I consider myself an advanced and experienced seamstress, but I am not sure I would put myself in the "expert" category. Without lack of instructions, constructing a skirt is pretty straight forward. However, blouses and jackets can be tricky depending on the designer's details. I have several resource books in which to pull information. So, my question is with various resources with which to consult, are the end results worth the extra challenge of not having instructions? Alania

Heather, Thanks. I got my pattern from Nancy Erickson at Fashion Sewing Group. Here's a link. http://members.tripod.com/NE_fashionsewing/fsg2.html You can see some of the patterns at the Marfy website, but you have to buy the catalog to see them all. The Fall/Winter one should be out pretty soon I think.

Thanks Irene & Valerie! This was pretty easy to sew, as it's a beautifully drafted pattern, but there are no instructions whatsoever, so you have to be confident in your skills. A few good references don't hurt either!
