Haiku #6: The woodpecker...

A pileated woodpecker seeking insects deep in the trunk of an old sugar maple.

I don't know who wrote this haiku. I copied it down decades ago, into a small notebook I carried for such things, and if there had been an author I would have listed him or her.

A superb capture of this very shy bird. I've only rarely seen one. I think these oversized woodpeckers look almost prehistoric. V
